As the longest serving first lady of the United States, Eleanor used her position to call media attention to her many causes. She served as the first chair of the United Nations commission on human rights and oversaw the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The many treasures comprising the sculptural border my portrait of Eleanor includes a collection of Franklin Mint UN children, vintage figurines represent her contributions to women's rights. Her love and compassion for nature and conservation are represented by the squirrel and deer figurine.
